Mary Anderson-Harris was born in Tallulah, Louisiana on January 2, 1956, Mary was the cherished daughter of Alex Moore and Beatrice Anderson-McGee. From the start, Mary danced through life with a rhythm all on her own—joyful, bold, loving, and full of soul.
“The blues ain’t nothing but a good woman gone home.”
Mary gave her life to Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Coggs at Solomon Temple Baptist Church in Tallulah, Louisiana. She remained a faithful member under the current leadership of Rev. Johnny Addison.
Later, Mary moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she became a proud member of Pure Fountain Missionary Baptist Church. There, she served faithfully as one of the Senior Mothers of the church. Mary was the Fundraising Chairperson, organized a church fashion show, and was always willing to lend a hand wherever needed. She never complained or spoke negatively when it came time to serve—she was truly the “go-to lady” with a heart full of grace and dedication to the work of Christ .Mary embodied the scripture Colossians 3:23 (KJV)
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Her voice echoed in the pews, her prayers wrapped around the congregation like a warm Sunday morning breeze, and her presence was a blessing to all who knew her.
“ I had My Best Time at the Hole In The Wall”
More than anything, Mary was the heartbeat of her family—the glue that held her generations together. She was the life of the party, known for lighting up any room with laughter and the kind of warmth that could only come from deep, unwavering love. Whether it was a backyard fish fry, a garage sale hunt, or just spending time with loved ones, Mary found joy in the simple things and made them extraordinary.
She had a deep love for blues music—its truth, its heartache, and its joy mirrored her own journey. Life gave her some low notes, but she turned them into a melody of strength and grace. Like the blues greats she admired, she carried her story in her spirit and shared it with those around her.
“ The Thrill is Gone The Thrill is Gone Away “
