Celebrating the Life of Lady Mark Walker

Lady Mark Walker was born on July 13, 1929, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Mark Williams and Ada Hall Williams. She was raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for family, faith, and hard work. She graduated from the historic I.M. Terrell High School in Fort Worth, Texas, leaving the foundation of her Texas upbringing to embark upon a beautiful and purposeful life.

After relocating to Los Angeles, California, Lady continued her education at Los Angeles City College and attended Compton Beauty School, where she distinguished herself not only as a talented student, but eventually as an instructor. Her passion for beauty and her entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish her own business, the Magic Comb Beauty Salon, which she proudly owned and operated from 1965 until 1995. For three decades, the Magic Comb was more than a salon—it was a place where people came to be cared for, encouraged, and made to feel beautiful.

Before establishing her career in cosmetology, Lady worked for the Los Angeles County Housing Authority. Throughout her professional life, she demonstrated the determination, independence, and work ethic that became hallmarks of her character.

Faith was also an important part of Lady’s life. Her church journey began at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. During her years in Los Angeles, she became a faithful and devoted member of True Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. After marrying Eddie Walker, she joined him in worship at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Following their retirement, Lady and Eddie made the decision to return to Fort Worth and begin a new chapter of their lives. It was only fitting that she returned to her spiritual home, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where her journey of faith had begun.

Lady was a woman who appreciated the finer things in life. Two of her favorite pastimes were shopping and decorating her home. She took pride in creating a beautiful and welcoming environment, reflecting her eye for style and her love of making a house feel like home.

Above all, Lady cherished her family. She leaves behind a remarkable legacy spanning generations. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Baadia Daaood, and her husband, Kamau, and their children: Lady Gray, Precious McGill, Rasudan Daaood, Naimah Catchings and her husband, Glenn, and Akhenaton Daaood and his wife, Billie.

She shared a particularly special bond with her great-grandchildren: Ameera, Dasia, George, Oni, Lady, Zoe, Glenn, Zipporah, Kojo, Stephen, Ada, and Sundiata, as well as her great-great-grandchildren, Christopher and Alaysia.

Lady also lovingly held in her heart the family of her late son, Donald, including his children Jezreel, Fashara, Autumn, Naisha, Zakiya, and Kijan; her great-grandchildren Shyne, Jordyn, Ryleigh and India; and her great-great-grandson Elijah.

In remembrance of the family connected to her through her marriage to her late husband, Eddie Walker, Lady’s obituary also acknowledges his children, Joy and Eddie Jr., and Joy’s children, Stacey and Shawnta, as well as, Sandy and Sharon Cathcart and family from a previous marriage.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Taji, her beloved son, Donald, and her husband, Eddie Walker.

Lady Mark Walker lived an extraordinary 97 years—a life marked by perseverance, faith, love, independence, creativity, and devotion to family. She witnessed the growth of her family across generations and had the blessing of seeing her legacy continue through children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Her legacy lives on through the many generations of her family—a beautiful reflection of a life deeply lived and deeply loved. The lessons she taught, the love she gave, the beauty she created, and the memories she left behind will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Lady’s journey on earth has come to a peaceful close, but her love remains. Her life was a gift, her memory is a treasure, and her legacy will live on forever.
