Obituary

Helen Ruth Coleman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, entrepreneur, and friend, was born on December 17, 1942, in Turkey, Texas, to George Coleman, Sr. and Elizabeth Brown. She departed this life on September 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, hard work, and cherished memories.

Helen received her education at Phillis Wheatley High School and later attended Prairie View University. From her early years, Helen developed a love for the restaurant business. She was employed at Pager-Phone, Fort Worth State School, and various restaurants, including Good Luck and The Lloyd's Overflow, where she gained valuable experience and cultivated a passion for serving others.

Her love for the restaurant industry eventually led her to become an entrepreneur. In 1995, Helen turned her passion into a dream and opened Helen's Diner, which she proudly owned and operated until 2012. Through Helen's Diner, she not only served food but also created a place where people could gather, fellowship, share laughter, and make memories. Her entrepreneurial spirit, determination, and love for people were reflected in everything she did.

Ms. Helen loved the Lord and attended Calvary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Supt. Alvin L. Pope. Later, she was under watchcare at Greater Eleazer Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence Barrett.

One of Helen's greatest joys was football—especially her beloved Dallas Cowboys. For more than 30 years, she ran the Dallas Cowboys Football Board, a tradition that became a special part of her life and brought family, friends, and her community together. Her enthusiasm for the Cowboys was unmistakable, and those who knew her will fondly remember her passion for football.

Helen was a woman who loved her family deeply. Preceding her in death were her parents, George Coleman, Sr. and Elizabeth Brown, brother, George Coleman and sister, Jennie Coleman Hayes. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Juan Patrick Walker; her grandsons, Juan Patrick II (Erica) and Alex Johnson, great grandchildren, Sofia and Juan Patrick III. her sisters, Geraldine Coleman Carter and Ruth Sample; brother, Edward Sample.

She will also be lovingly remembered by her nieces, Constance Coleman, Katonga Turner (Homer), LaDecci Harlin (Michael), Evelyn Washington (Antoine), Anthonaye Key (Antari), Cherry Tucker, Demesha Garner, Conetra Sample-Clark (Sean); her nephews, Derrick Gardner, Von Diggs, and Arthur Carter, Jr.;Great and Great Great, Nieces and Nephews along with her many cherished friends, extended family members, and all those whose lives she touched throughout the years.

Helen's life was a testament to perseverance, family, entrepreneurship, and the importance of creating lasting connections with others. From her work in restaurants to becoming the proud co-owner of Helen's Diner, she built something meaningful through determination and a genuine love for people.

Though she has taken her final journey from this earthly life, the memories Helen created will continue to live on through her son, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family, friends, and the many people fortunate enough to have known her.

Her laughter will be remembered.

Her love will be cherished.

Her legacy will continue.

And her Dallas Cowboys spirit will never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully, Helen Ruth Coleman. Your work here is done, but your love and memory will live on in our hearts forever.
