Glenda was born on September 24, 1942, in Hawkins, Texas, to the loving parents, Elice Guthrie and Thelma Golightly Guthrie. Raised with strong Christian values, unwavering integrity, and a deep appreciation for family, she carried those principles with her throughout her life.

After relocating from the piney woods of East Texas, Glenda made Fort Worth, Texas, her beloved home. There, she became deeply rooted in the community, building a life defined by service, faith, and compassion. She was a proud graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, where she formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.

On May 29, 1962, Glenda welcomed the joy of her life, a beautiful baby girl whom she named Paulette. Affectionately known as her "Pumpkin," Paulette was Glenda's only child and the greatest blessing of her life. Glenda loved her dearly and cherished every moment they shared together.

Throughout her professional career, Glenda demonstrated dedication, excellence, and a genuine desire to serve others. She was employed by Bank of America, where she faithfully worked in Human resources . She later devoted many years to serving the senior community as the Senior Director of the Worth Heights Senior Citizens Center, touching countless lives through her leadership, kindness, and unwavering commitment.

While Glenda's professional accomplishments were significant, her greatest passion was serving God through His church. For more than 60 years, she was a faithful and devoted member of McMillan United Methodist Church, where her presence, leadership, and servant's heart became an enduring legacy. She faithfully served in numerous ministries and leadership roles, including:

• President of the United Methodist Women
• Finance Chair
• Sunday School Superintendent
• Usher Board President
• Founder and Leader of the Genesis Circle
• Chairperson of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee (PPRC)
• One of the last remaining Charter Members from the original merger that formed Cowan-McMillan United Methodist Church

Her faith was not merely something she professed—it was something she lived each day. Whether organizing church ministries, mentoring others, or quietly serving behind the scenes, Glenda reflected Christ’s love through her actions and unwavering dedication. Her commitment to serving extended far beyond the walls of the church. She was a respected community leader who believed in opening doors for future generations. Among her many civic contributions, she proudly served as:

• Founding Member and Sponsor of the Junior Debutantes of Fort Worth
• Director of Volunteers for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Fort Worth Chapter
• 
  

Through these organizations, Glenda invested her time, wisdom, and resources into helping young people pursue education, leadership, and excellence.

Of all the titles she held throughout her life, none brought her greater joy than those of mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, family matriarch, and friend. Her love for her family was immeasurable. She treasured every gathering, every celebration, every conversation, and every opportunity to encourage those she loved.

Those who knew Glenda also knew of her unwavering loyalty to her beloved Dallas Cowboys. Through every victory and every disappointing season, she remained a faithful fan supporting her team with enthusiasm, laughter, and hope, always believing that next season would be “their year. ”Her beautiful legacy of faith, love, service, wisdom, and generosity will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her".

Glenda was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Elice Guthrie ,Thelma Golightly Guthrie,Favorite Cousin James Hill , Late Husband James Lawrence

With hearts filled with love, gratitude, and cherished memories, we celebrate the remarkable life of Mrs. Glenda Lawrence, who peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the age of 83 years. Having fought the good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith, she now rests safely in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Left in caring hands of God are her devoted Daughter, Paulette Yvonne Terrell her beloved Grandson, Michael Guthrie (Marquita) , four cherished Great-grandchildren, Kimball Mitchell, Raelon Anderson, Raeven Anderson, Kindall Guthrie; cousins, Carrie Mae, Dennis Hill (Sarah Denise), Debra Turner Edmon, Debra Kibby Hill; Family by love, Bennie and Janice Barrett; Stepson James"Amp" Lawrence; God Brother Walter Singleton; special friends, Tom and Debbie Thornal and Lydia Atkins; Long time friends Shirley Barton ,Pearlie Sneed, Charlesetta Johnsons; Special daughters; Malinda Allen, Carol Ladkins; Her beloved church family of McMillan United Methodist Church; Along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, community friends, and all whose lives were forever enriched by knowing her. Though our hearts are saddened by her earthly departure, we rejoice in knowing that Glenda’s labor is finished, her crown has been received, and she now hears the words every faithful servant longs to hear:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:23

Her life was a testimony of faith. Her service was an example of love. Her legacy will live on forever.
