Edward Ray Dobbin was born in Beaumont Texas on January 25,1940 to the parentage of Clifton & Rosie Lee Dobbin. He attended Adams Elementary in Beaumont. His family moved to Houston, Texas where he enrolled at B.C Elmore Junior and Senior High School. He graduated in 1958.
Edward was a major part of the High School band and continued his love of music through jointly formulating the extremely popular “Trojans Allstars” Band in Houston, Texas. Their popularity grew so fast throughout the city and the state that their young band secured requests to perform in New Mexico and Arizona where the bands’ dream was fulfilled with an invitation to Los Angles California to appear on the Ed Sullivan’s Television Show.
The Trojan band played with and/or opened for musical stars such as Ray Charles, Bobby Bland, Ike & Tina Turner, David “Fathead” Newman, Johnnie Taylor, Rufus and Carla Thomas, Etta James and Betty Wright. The Band returned to Texas when the popular movie star at the time “Dale Robinson” offered them a contract to be the lone house band for his newly built Ramada Inn Hotel located in the Midland/Odessa Texas area.
Edward settled in Fort Worth after his musical career but continued to play his saxophone and flute. Edward attended Electrical Circuitry training at LTV Aerospace Corporation in Grand Prairie, Texas where he was hired in the first set of Electrical trainees first graduation class. Several years later he was hired by Xerox Corporation as a Copy Machine Specialist in Dallas, Texas and Pitney Bowes Corporation as a Senior Copy Technician, and retired from Konaka Office Machines also as a Senior Copy Machine Service Representative in Fort Worth.
Edward was proceeded in death by his parents, Clifton and Rosie Dobbin, two brothers Charles Dobbin and Wayne Dobbin. Edward is survived by two brothers, Alvin Dobbin and Clifton Dobbins (Annie), son Craig Dobbin, and daughter Sonya McClain (Walter) Wife Elizabeth Ann Dobbin, 3 grandsons, Chaz Dobbin, Walter Ace McClain, Wyatt Amir McClain, and a host of nieces, nephews and close friends.
