Diago Franchez Jones was a man whose spirit was as warm and powerful as the Texas sun. Born on November 23, 1982, in Arlington, Texas, he brought light and laughter into the world that would shine throughout his life. He was the beloved son of LaJoya Jones, her only child, and Frenchester Chism, who preceded him in death. Diago was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Reverend AV Fisher and accepted christ at the young age of 8. Diago transitioned on October 12, 2024, leaving behind a community that will feel his absence deeply, especially on the Eastside where his presence was always felt.
Diago was a dedicated and loving father to his two children, Demari Jones and De’Liyah Jones. They were his pride and joy, and he poured his heart into guiding them with love, humor, and strength. As a father, he ensured that his children knew they were cherished and that they could always count on him for support. His laughter, wisdom, and care will live on in their hearts forever. He had two siblings, Abram Lewis and Tamika Chism and a host of Uncles, Aunts, family, and friends who loved him deeply.
He was a proud alumnus of Dunbar High School, where he embraced his Wildcat roots, making lifelong memories and connections. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy's fan. Diago’s competitive spirit and passion came alive in the games he loved to play. He crowned himself the GOAT—Greatest of All Time—of the pool table, chess board, and dominoes. His trash talk was legendary especially when came to rooting for the Dallas Cowboys but it was never mean-spirited; it was how he made connections, how he brought everyone closer. With each playful jab and every hearty laugh, he transformed simple moments into lasting memories.
Diago was more than a competitor; he was a loyal friend, the kind you could count on through thick and thin. His presence filled every room with warmth, and his laughter was a source of comfort for those who knew him. He had a way of turning even the simplest gatherings into occasions to remember, making people feel seen, heard, and valued.
His passing is a loss that is beyond words, especially for the Eastside community where he grew up and remained deeply rooted. The weight of this loss is immeasurable, but so is the love and joy that he leaves behind. His spirit will continue to live in the stories shared around the pool table, the memories exchanged over a game of chess, and the laughter that will echo for years to come.
Rest in peace, Diago. You will be missed more than words can express, but your legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know you.
